Stressdirections
Are you an HR manager dealing with high absentee rate, sick employees and an unproductive workforce? Did you know stress might be the problem?

On Monday, flyte launched a Web site for Stress Directions, The Stress Knowledge Company™. It was our first site build entirely on the Content Management System Joomla, but more on that in another post.

Stress Directions (SDI) works with BellSouth, IBM, Gillette, the U.S. State Department and other companies and organizations to identify the patterns and costs of organizational stress.

How much is stress costing your company? Take SDI’s Stress Cost Calculator to find out. Did you know that 50% of absenteeism is due to stress?!?

SDI offers a host of products and services for the HR professional to understand, manage and reduce stress in her workforce. If absenteeism, turnover, health care costs or worker comp is hurting your bottom line, be sure to check out Stress Directions today.

The Importance of Play

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

In his latest email newsletter/article, Dr. Bob Brooks (my dad/client) writes about the importance of play in young children.

While this has nothing to do with Internet marketing or Web site design, as a parent it struck as extremely important. I’m concerned that we’re over-scheduling our children and not giving them enough free time to exercise their imaginations.

Plus, my daughter Maya is featured in the article.

If you’re a parent, teacher or caregiver for a child, please take ten minutes to read "To Appreciate the Influence of Play."

Other parenting and educational articles an an email sign up for dad’s Dr. Brooks’s newsletter are available at his site: http://www.drrobertbrooks.com.

Mougalian Rugs: Antique, Oriental and One-of-a-Kind Rugs

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

Mougalian_1
Today we launched a new Web site for Mougalian Rugs, a store selling antique, one-of-a-kind and contemporary rugs from my hometown of Scarborough, Maine.

Mougalian offers both in-store and in-home consultations. For free.

They also offer rug restoration and repair, stair runner installations, rug appraisals and they can help you buy or sell older and antique handmade oriental rugs.

But what makes me really excited about this site is what you can’t see.

This is the first in a series of portfolio-driven Web sites flyte’s building that allows the site owner to add, edit or delete products in their portfolio or store.

MougalianadminIn this particular configuration, the site owner can enter in the rug style, inventory number, a description with a WYSIWYG text box, clickable keywords (or "tags" as you Web 2.0 kids call ‘em), size, price, etc. Mougalian can also upload photos and even mark them as sold.

If someone purchases one online (through a tight integration with PayPal) the site will report the item as sold, but can still show it.

The site visitor can search the store and see close ups of the products. On each page are the clickable keywords, so that I can see other rugs that have been tagged as round, Bidjar, red and ivory.

While Mougalian has hundreds (if not more!) rugs in their physical store, they’ve only begun to scratch the surface in their online store. So if you don’t see what you’re looking for today, subscribe to their email newsletter or give them a call.

Maine Coast Real Estate Blog

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

Nsrblog
A couple weeks back I posted about the launch of a Web site for Newcastle Square Realty. At the same time we launched their Maine coast properties blog, which is really starting to come into its own.

What I like about this blog is that it’s only peripherally about Maine coast real estate. Most of the posts are about what’s going on around Damariscotta, Pemaquid, Newcastle and the surrounding area.

Recent posts talk about the Pemaquid Oyster Festival, a history lesson on the Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site, and a midnight kayaking trip on Musconous Bay.

However, this isn’t to say this isn’t a business blog. The properties that Newcastle Square Realty features tends to be high-end second (or third!) homes. People are trying to decide between buying a house on the Maine coast or Nantucket, for example.

By promoting local activities, festivals and the unmatched beauty of the Maine coast, Newcastle Sq. is showing what an amazing and active place their neck of the woods can be.

Even if you’re not planning on buying that second house just yet, take a look at the Newcastle Square Realty Blog and see the way life should be.

BTW, aren’t you ready to have flyte redesign your own blog?

Art Pottery Blog for Home Owners and Interior Decorators

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

Artpotteryblog
We recently launched an Art Pottery Blog for Greg Myroth of JustArtPottery.com.

The blog is targeted not only at art pottery fans, but also interior decorators and designers, people interested in art pottery as an investment, fans of arts & crafts, as well as any home owner looking for a unique piece of spatial art for their home.

Greg’s off to a great start on his posts, including titles such as:

Flyte created a custom, complementary design (to his Web site), added an email alert option so that visitors could receive emails of each post, and links to each of the categories of his online store (again, back at his site.) In addition, flyte is helping Greg with the promotion of the site through blog directories, pinging, and continual nagging about posting and commenting appropriately on other blogs.

If you want a custom design for your own business blog, or need help promoting it, please contact us today.

Maine Coast Properties Online: Newscastle Square Realty

Monday, August 28th, 2006

Nsr
Late last week flyte launched a new Web site and blog for Newcastle Square Realty, a realtor serving the mid-coast region of Maine.

At the Web site visitors can search all of Newcastle’s Maine coast listings, or just select by residential, land or commercial. You can of course also search all of the mid-coast Maine property listings as well.

Flyte also designed and set up a complementary real estate blog for Newcastle. In my initial discussions with Jim Cosgrove, the resident blogger for Newcastle, I definitely felt I was working with someone who "got it."

Although real estate related posts would definitely be part of the blog, Jim seemed equally if not more interested in painting a picture of what life is like day-to-day in this beautiful part of the world.

I’m looking forward to future posts.

New Screening Tool for Juvenile Bipolar Disorder

Friday, August 25th, 2006

Cbqscreen
Many parents struggle with children and teenagers who suffer from early-onset bipolar disorder, but the lag time between initial symptoms and accurate diagnosis can take up to 8 – 10 years!

Yesterday, flyte finished programming new automatic, online scoring of two screening instruments for the Juvenile Bipolar Research Foundation. These screening tools include the Child Bipolar Questionnaire and the Jeannie and Jeffrey Illustrated Interview for Children.

As Demitri Papolos, Director of Research for the JBRF writes:

This is the first time the two companion interviews are available together with scoring and interpretation. We hope parents will find these tools useful and that they provide additional information to clinicians and educators who work with their children. If you are a parent or if you know anyone that might benefit from this program, please pass this information along to them.

It can be a terrifying experience to be a parent of a child suffering from early-onset bipolar disorder, and even more terrible not to know. These online tools can be an important first step to get families the help they need.

Pediatric Associates of Lewiston, Maine

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

Pediatricassociates
This morning we launched a Web site for Pediatric Associates of Lewiston (Maine.) Pediatric Associates has been offering pediatric services to the Lewiston/Auburn area of Maine since 1989.

When I first met with them a few months back to review our proposal I was blown away by their facility. If my childhood pediatrician had waiting rooms like this I would have gotten sick a lot more often! They actually have several waiting rooms, including one specifically for teenagers.

The site also contains a section called Caring for Children: Health Care Information for Your Infant, Child and Adolescent, which includes great information on everything from Asthma to Vomiting.
