News Flash: Web Sites Are a Lot of Work!

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

News Flash: Web sites are a lot of work! This came from a new client of ours who’s Web sites just about to launch:

Although it has taken more work on my end than expected, I could not be happier with the final result. I am very happy I went with flyte!

OK, a little self-serving, I admit. (In our defense, it was unsolicited.)

Blogs Are Like Salsa, Not Ice Cream

Friday, August 26th, 2005

From Steve Strauss at USA Today by way of Jim Turner:

[Blogs are] definitely the Flavor of the Month. But even when chocolate is the Flavor of the Month, that doesn’t make it any less tasty. Sometimes trendy is OK, and this is one of those times.

I don’t know that the analogy of blogs being the flavor of the month is a good one. So let me make an even more bizarre analogy: blogs are salsa.

SEO Philosophy: Naturalists vs. Eugenists

Monday, August 22nd, 2005

To simplify this post, let’s say there are two types of search engine optimization (SEO) professionals out there who I’m calling the Naturalists and the Eugenists.

Naturalists don’t necessarily wear Birkenstocks, smell like patchouli and eat Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, and Eugenists don’t necessarily wear white lab coats, split DNA and try and grow tomatoes that will feed a family of four for dinner.

Both the Naturalist and the Eugenist are in the business of search engine optimization, but they differ on their view of SEO.

Selling Rain to Arabs: Marketing to a World View

Monday, August 22nd, 2005

The Wall St. Journal has a great story on page one today entitled Arabs on Holiday Hope for Rain [online version requires subscription.]

The Indian state of Goa has been advertising itself as a "monsoon destination" to Arab families looking for a rainy break from the desert life. It may sounds strange to you–or downright sacrilegious if you live in Seattle–but one Arab father likened it to Western families frolicking in the snow.

The Blogosphere Eats Itself

Friday, August 19th, 2005

Today’s the last day of the Blog Business Summit, or BBS05 to those in the know. Well-known and A-List bloggers–including many of the people with whom I share a soap box at Business Blog Consulting–are there and a number of them are speaking.

As you can imagine, with a room full of bloggers with wi-fi connections listening to other bloggers talking about blogging, there’s been a lot of content churned out. Perhaps a little too much pop eating itself.

Tuesday, August 16th, 2005

This morning the newest issue of flyte log–flyte’s free email newsletter–is going out to subscribers.

Today’s topic is The Four Pillars of Web Marketing:
