Apologies to Nerdbooks.com

OK, if you saw my soft rant yesterday about NerdBooks.com I told you I’d have a follow up.

Well, I do, and is there ever egg on my face. Here’s Dave’s response:

Rich,

actually, you have purchased our books at Amazon marketplace. Perhaps, as you say, it was someone else on your behalf. If you are still interested in technical and computer books we would be happy to see you among our customers.

Have a great day,

Dave Henley

Well, after being such a butt-head, the least I can do is give them a link. (The book was for an employee, by the way.)

I had never heard of this company until they relocated from California to the Dallas, TX, area where I live. When I inquired about shipping charges for in-store pickup, they told me all I had to do was indicate "hold for pickup" and they wouldn't charge me for the shipping.

While they are basically a wholesale warehouse they do have a store-front that serves as retail base. The store has a nice large bookstore ambiance, not the cramped corner of a warehouse that you'd expect.

In fairness to Nerd Books, they are a retail outlet.

Dave keeps a vast (maybe 100k titles) inventory and he ships alomst within minutes of receiving an order.

They also have copies of hard to find engineering titles.

If it's technical and you need it now and you want the best price available, Nerd Books is the place to go.

My appologies if that sounds like a commercial. These guys do business right and I'm a raving fan!

I've bought a number of books from Dave in the past and will order again.

Items are Alway's available … alway's shipped and recieved quickly. (Almost as fast as getting your payment sucked out of your Master card account).

And the best part…. recieving a call from Dave himself to resolve an issue before it became a problem.

    Bottom line:

"Customer Service Cannot Get Any Better Than This"

I just took my last trip to Nerd books. Upon entering their advertised storefront, the door did not close behind me. I took approx. 5 steps and then turned around and closed the door. Apparently, this was not quick enough for the owner who rather than put a spring on the door would rather berate customers. I got the same degrading speech that other customers have commented on…. We really needed to pick up a ton of books, but there was no way we were going to make a purchase after being treated this way. As we exited the owner tried to give us a smug "Have a nice day"… When we did not respond he followed us outside to tell us that "he did not appreciate it being disrespected in his store!!” This guy is a moron. I hope that anyone that purchases books from this company never has to deal with the staff. In their words, "We only make a dollar per book"…

I too have taken my last visit to nerd books . I entered the store and thought I had closed the door when I asked for a reciept after a purchase I was berated by the owner for not closing the door. I apologized but that wasnt enough the owner continued to rant telling me he did want my business and said if I did not leave he would call the police. I think the guy has a serious mental problem

I've ordered books from NerdBooks.com for years… My orders have always been priced lower than anywhere online, shipped faster than any store online, and support has been awesome.

I had one problem with a shipment after years of good service. A quick phone call to NerdBooks, they checked their inventory and sent me my order next day service. The owner even called and apologized saying this has never happened in X amount of years. It took me 5 minutes to explain that everything is okay, he just kept apologizing up and down the river… I don't think the owner of Amazon would ever do that…

Recently I started making the hour drive to NerdBooks… Here's what you'll find inside.

FREE Meeting areas where guys like the Dallas PHP Users Group, Python User Group, etc… show up to meet in nice conference areas…

Just about every book you can imagine for Geeks neatly organized on the shelves and easy to find… When you checkout, you scan you own books with a barcode scanner, fun stuff, and you'll take you books over to a guy (usually the owner) who will make sure you are the happiest guy on earth before you leave.

You'll find a fountain machine, NO JOKE, where you can get make your own drink…

You'll be greeted by 2 Rescue Labs with wagging tails who roam the whole store and warehouse…

Reading areas, just like Barnes and Noble…

And if your in the store longer than 5 minutes, you'll be greeted by a smiling face, the owner "Dave Henley", who will take you a tour of how the whole place works. He's an extremely friendly person and you'll not find him stiff in a suit.
He'll usually be in a workout outfit, running his butt off making sure everything is working perfect in the warehouse, store and checkout… I've never had to wait when checking out, kind of think of it…

Dave works hard on Nerdbooks… You'd think it was his home… When is the last time Amazon allowed you into their warehouse to get books direct from the shipper at wholesale prices? Barnes and Noble may do this, but their prices are way high…

So while the door is open to the public, this is truly a place geeks call home. So be polite and close the door on the way in, as there are a couple of Labs that might run out the front door.

If I came to your home and left the door open, you'd be pretty pissed as well…

So you need to understand that this is not just a warehouse and bookstore, but a friendly home for Geeks to hang out in…

Dave has an extremely nice place for all of us to hang out, respect the way he runs his home and you just might get a soda pop and a friendly smile that says your always welcome at NerdBooks…

One other thing, and maybe I should not say anything. It really hurt Dave's feelings that you two were offended by something as simple as please close the door.

Its amazing how some people in today's time are extremely rude to judgment when they come into someone else's home. Its a privileged to go in, and just because he asked you to close the door you get all bent… btw, because of you 2, we have to use the side door now, the really nice front doors are locked now…
