As I was attempting to clear out my inbox in preparation of my first day back at work tomorrow, I came across a good article from Jeanne Jennings, a ClickZ resident expert.
The article is entitled "Improving Your Welcome Message" and talks about…well, how to improve your email newsletter’s welcome message.
<plug> As part of flyte’s packet that we send out as Constant Contact resellers, </plug> we always recommend that clients personalize their welcome and confirmation messages, rather than use the vague-by-necessity default messages that Constant Contact or other email service providers use.
In fact, you may remember that I’ve named July 1st as Hidden Copy Day, a day to review all of the copy that you don’t see on your Web site on a day-to-day basis. Your welcome message would certainly be part of that collection.
Ms. Jennings lists a number of things you might want to include in your welcome message, including at least one thing I hadn’t thought of: a co-registration opportunity.
If you have a business associate with whom you enjoy a symbiotic relationship, and who also has an email newsletter, consider promoting each other’s newsletters in your welcome message. You’ll both see an increase in subscriptions because of it.
