Normally I wouldn’t comment on posts but I felt that I had to as your writing style is actually good. You have broken down a tough area so that it easy to understand.

Content based Optimisation (Naturalist) must provide more accuracy as matching content is the focus of any users search.
Personally, the more aggressive approach (Eugenists) may attract visitors to the site unrelated to the content. This must effect click=sales figures as well as produce exaggerated hit counts.
I am all too familiar with the frustration caused by not finding anything relevant on a matched site and I am sure I am not alone.
Is the focus on providing accurate results for search engine users or on generating money?
If we are interested in professionalism, ethics and user respect the approach should be "naturalist", obviously.
As the recent Global Financial Crisis showed we are more interested in trying to avoid paying our own bills and leeching the last dollar from our fellow man/woman than actually assisting our fellow man or woman.

The fact that there is a debate between real content matching or trickery is appalling.
Ta Bill,

Thanks for a great article !
I can only agree that it works. Content and good meta tags is the key to success with SEO.
