When this happened to me I was happy to discover another great how-to resource in an article written by Vonetta Booker Brown. Her original piece is at http://www.righthandconcepts.com/articles.htm#content

I took the direct approach and contacted the infringer who took her site down IMMEDIATELY. Think it was a learning experience all around. I won't go into the story in detai her, but just comment that I agree it's an occupational hazard. Being proactive is a good way to try to combat the problem but it surely won't go away soon.

I know what you mean. What I hate are the spambots that crawl by and duplicate the content of your site all over various ad sites. That's stealing where I can’t even tell that anything I had done was good at all.

In my experience, theft of work in this industry is something that's more common then it should be. I'm not sure if designers, developers or copywriters feel that it's standard practice or that all ideas have already been done—why not save time?

In the end, if you want to stand out you have to do the unique works that stand out, and publish that content before somebody else comes up with the phrase. Your visitors might not notice, but Google does pay attention to who had it first.

I love the fact that you put their email addresses in your blog so the spammers can easily find them!

Best,
