eBay / PayPal Scam: Digimax 130

Paypalforgery
If you received an email about your recent eBay purchase of a Digimax 130, you don’t need to bother clicking the Dispute Transaction link.

This is an all-too-common scam to get you to give up your PayPal login information, so don’t fall for it.

In the version I received, the Payment Details included:

Amount: $47.85 USD

Transaction ID: 2LC956793J776333Y

Subject: Digimax 130

The seller was named as Edward Harrell, eBay user ID: scratchandgnaw2, although if there really is an Edward Harrell of Springtown, Texas, you can be sure he had nothing to do with this.

    Hey Rich… You're back!

I haven't fallen for this one yet, but I almost got roped into what I think was a virus sent under the disguise of a Windows Explorer update. It looked exactly like an authentic windows update message! It indicated that I needed to install ErrorSafe (due to errors in my registry database or file system… yada yada). I didn't click ok, but I must have done something because Norton grabbed it and has since deleted all related files that were somehow on my computer.

I googled it and found a lot of people have unintentionally downloaded it and have had trouble removing some parts of it. Don't know how damaging it is, or even if it is a virus, but thought I'd throw it out there.

Hey Rich, I also received this email on PayPal with almost the exact info as you did. I did not click on the dipute transaction key -However it bothers me that I even opened it! Hey it looked legit! I knew nothing had been ordered using PayPal in months so should I worry about my bank info getting out? Thanks, J

We don't have an account with paypal and we got the e-mail to. What's up with this? The info was the exact as yours. How can someone get a hold of paypal and find out how we can have an accout? If any one knows let me know.

I received the same E-mail but I don't have a PayPal account either. I already phoned my bank to confirm it hadn't posted as yet. Thank you for the warning.

Hi, thanx also! I clicked on the dispute thing, and it directs to a page which says the account has been canceled or something like it.
I also reported to Paypal (where I don't have an account) but no answer whatsoever.

The punishment should be death. These are foreigners are causing harm to civilians in this country. It's an act of war and as far as I'm concerned, they cause more harm to Americans within our borders that any Iraqi has.

I almost got caught up in this scam as well. I do not subscribe to Pay Pal either. Because I was frauded some years ago, I certainly keep on top of everything. Jeffrey,

Um, seems like you have some anger issues here. Not sure why it has to be foreigners running this scam; there's certainly enough grifters here in the good 'ol US of A.

I go this same email today and have not used PayPal in years. I DID click the dispute link, and got a message from my computer's widows security protection thing that it is a "known phishing website" whatever that is, and advised me to close the page. So I did.

Rec'd scam on Digimax 130 from Ed Harrelman on Oct 10th and just found out on the 24th when I checked messages. I freaked out and contacted paypal them my bank a/c to find that it had not been touched. How can we let the general public know about this before they freak out too and waste at least an hour of time clarifying the problem?

I received the Digimax 130 PayPal message today. My Norton antivirus didn't stop it. Does it carry any kind of virus? My PayPal account is inactive and I have notified my bank to stop the $147.85 transaction.

Guess it's still happening under different names. I received two emails today- one from belinda 1017 and another from jamesthomson thanking me for my purchase of a Digimax 130 for 47.85. I had no idea what a digimax 130 was. I'm rather technologically challenged. I too, clicked on the rebuttal link, but said the page was unavailable. Sure hope they aren't really taking money from my account. What Jerks!

Glad to see I wasn't alone in the panicking and blindly clicking to dispute the transaction! I'm hoping I didn't do worse damage by clicking the link. I didn't see any info about what happens if you used the link though. Anyone know what it does?

I don't believe clicking on the link will cause you harm (but no promises), but rather if you provide your PayPal username/password at this bogus site they'll then have it, and be able to log into your PayPal account and mess with it, perhaps locking you out or moving your money around, or purchasing products that will be charged to you.
