eBay / PayPal Scam: Digimax 130

Paypalforgery
If you received an email about your recent eBay purchase of a Digimax 130, you don’t need to bother clicking the Dispute Transaction link.

This is an all-too-common scam to get you to give up your PayPal login information, so don’t fall for it.

In the version I received, the Payment Details included:

Amount: $47.85 USD

Transaction ID: 2LC956793J776333Y

Subject: Digimax 130

The seller was named as Edward Harrell, eBay user ID: scratchandgnaw2, although if there really is an Edward Harrell of Springtown, Texas, you can be sure he had nothing to do with this.

    Hi,
Thanks for your helpful info, Rich! I received similar email from "pay pal"; seller: Cheryl Blake from Dover, DE. Purchase of Digimax 130 for the same amount as people above. Didn't follow dispute resolution link because I thought it was a virus.
    Thanks again,

Almost fell for this one too. They are getting so real, it's hard to tell the SCAM from the legit. Had to look up what a Digimax 130 was and found this blog. Checked my bank account and was relieved to discover it was all a scam. Beware! Thoroughly check everything before clicking on any e-mail that seems fishy. Luckily I never buy anything on e-bay so I was suspicious.

1-23-08 daisysdream@yahoo.com also tried to pay for a Digimax 130. I didn't click anything in the email, but did go to paypal.com and forwarded the email to spoof@paypal.com and did get an email back from them stating "Thanks for taking an active role by reporting suspicious-looking emails.
The email you forwarded to us is a phishing email, and our security team is working to disable it."
I found this blog by googling digimax130, also.
    Thanks for all the comments.

02-04-08, My boss received this email from daisydream101@yahoo.com, with Pamela Weppner as the ebay user name. He doesn't have a Paypal account, so he forwarded the email to me. A quick Google search sent me here.

I received an email from "daisydream101@yahoo.com" with the same "Pamela Weppner as the ebay user name. I "do not" have or never have had an account at Paypal. I thought it was strange that they said I owed money for some camera for some person I don't know!!! I clicked the dispute button and my computer informed me it was invalid website. I googled for the camera and found this blog. Thanks for the info. Can't trust anyone!!! Their always coming up with new ways to scam people out of their cash!!!

I just sent a copy of this email to spoof@paypal.com and then I googled the item and came upon this site. I'm sure glad I didn't open anything in it or reply or try to dispute the thing. Man, people will try anything to make a buck or two!

Thanks for 'watchin' my back… hope I can return the favor sometime!

This person is probabaly enjoying their noterity. My question is why doesen't Pay Pal the "secure site" that it says it is protect or block ID's that have given people problems or are deemed as phishing?

    Helga,

Just opening it won't do anything, but if you logged into a fake PayPal site you may want to contact PayPal and change your username/password.

FYI, its still around. The name used was Rebecca Farrow. I just got the same Digimax 130 email but addressed from "Paypal [account@secure.com]" and reported it to Paypal. Then I saw your page. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for posting this. Yep, my husband got the same email today using the Digimax 130 and saying the buyer was Rebecca Farrow. The sad thing too is that there really is a Rebecca Farrow on ebay since 2003. She is a victim too. Per some recent info I just read, Don't ever click on a link in a suspicious email as it could install malware on your computer without you realizing it. That could open your computer up to ID theft as it searches for financial info such as credit card numbers, etc.
I contacted PayPal today and found that one key to a scam email is that PayPay uses your complete name and doesn't address you, like this email, as Dear PayPal Member.

I just got the Rebecca Farrow one in my work e-mail. I think we got it because we use Pay Pal for membership and merchandise payment to our organization.

We received the same "rebeccafarrow" e-mail today. Thanks for having a "scam" link under digimax search. That's how I found this out. We do have pay pal, and have had problems with fraud in the past, so I was extremely concerned. Thanks for giving us all the straight scoop.

Now "Perry Alvin" is selling this same Digimax 130. Don't worry about your c/c info, etc., since our user who received this email doesn't even have a Paypal account, and never has. So it is phishing, and your c/c and Paypal account are not really at risk.

I just recieved this email today, and my paypal account is actually limited now. It states that there was unauthorized use with my account and it is now limited. Is this all a complete scam and phishing or is some of it actually true where this person/person(s) has our info?
