Lee Odden of Online Marketing Blog has a great post from last week called 5 Reasons Why Business Blogs Fail.
In all this hype about how so many blogs get started everyday is the lesser known fact that so many blogs are abandoned every day. And unlike a Web site that hasn’t been updated in a while, a blog starts to show its age right away. It’s a beast that needs continual care and feeding.
In my conversations with business owners, there’s often this idea that a blog is a silver bullet that will magically improve their search engine visibility, drive more qualified leads to their site, and make them fat and happy. While all can be true (although evidence suggests fat people are no more happy than the rest of us and often suffer from health issues making them less happy), it takes work.
I know that I’ll be using these five reasons (and a few I’ve picked up along the way) to help business owners disqualify themselves from starting a blog if they don’t have the time, resources and passion to keep a blog afloat.
By the way, if you’re not reading Online Marketing Blog and you’re serious about your Web marketing strategy, I strongly recommend you add it to your feeds.
