How to Engage People on Twitter: Replies, Direct Messages & ReTweets

Twitter, as readers of this blog know, is a popular microblogging platform and my current fascination/addiction.

I've put together a few videos recently about Twitter:

Today I'm taking it a step further with a video on how to engage people on Twitter one-on-one by using replies, direct messages and retweets.

If you can't see the video below, you can watch How to Engage People on Twitter at YouTube.

Rich, great video. I'll be sure to keep the URL to send to people getting started with Twitter.
I see you use TweetDeck. Love it! The more you use Twitter, the more you realize you need more than one tool to truly stay connected.
If you haven't seen it, there is TwitterSpy, which lets you track tweets through Google Talk or other XMPP application. I have written up more about that here: http://is.gd/NVW

The Twitter craze has been going in since early this year yet some small business owners wonder if it's for them or not. I found a great article in GrabbingGreen.com that talks about whether Twitter is something your business should be using. I highly recommend it for those still fairly new to the Twitter effect. http://grabbinggreen.com/home/free-resources

Twitter is a powerful tool…only if you are being followed. Are you a leader in your industry? Do people care about what you have to say? On a recent trip to NYC I had a terrific experience with Twitter: http://jbrides.wordpress.com/2008/11/01/hijack-dane-sanders-me-seth-and-the-power-of-twitter/

I would love to search Twitter to introduce myself to some speakers at an NYC meeting I'm sponsoring later this week. I figure it will help with the person to person introduction if we have already 'met' on Twitter.

BUT — I haven't been able to do a people search on Twitter for several days. Do you have the inside scoop on why that feature is temporarily disabled? It's frustrating…
