I think part of the problem is that so many shops are still running Windows 2000. If users in those environments are unwilling or unable to download and install Firefox, then they're basically stuck using IE6, because IE7 will not run on Win2K.

Unfortunately, we can't ignore IE6 just yet. Many people are slow adapters, and as you so aptly point out, depending on the audience served, IE6 users can still make up a significant visitor segment. At LegalMatch.com, YTD, we've had over 800K IE users come to us – 25% we using IE6, 72.9% IE7 and only 1.9% on IE8.

Good post. I sure hope the time has come to start ignoring ie6. Of course, I also hope ie8 is an improvement!
