Posting to a Business Page from Your Business: Facebook Tips

Yesterday I posted How to Post to Your Facebook Business Page As You (And Not Your Business). That post (and accompanying video) got a lot of good response and some great follow-up questions.

One of the questions was from a woman who wanted to post to a business’s Facebook page, and have the post attributed to her business, not to herself.

I created a video which you can watch on YouTube or below, but here are two critical steps:

  • You need to become a fan of the business in question (and what do you know, I created a video on that, too!)
  • You need to use the Facebook convention of “mentioning” the other business in your post with the @ symbol.

That’s it! Of course, it helps if the other business has their default wall setting to show all posts, not just their own posts.

UPDATE: You can now post, comment or like something on your business page as yourself.

A friend referred me to your site because I had *similar* questions but the video still doesn’t quite get at my issues.

Would you take a look at http://www.joehageonline.com/2010/09/04/can-you-answer-these-facebook-questions/

I’d be grateful for your comment; a video; or, if you like, I would be happy for you to make a guest post on my site because I’ve had a number of visitors look for similar answers.

    Best,

Great advice thank you. Another question re: business pages. Whenever I post a comment on my own business page, my personal ‘friends’ get this business related post on their wall. They are not interested in my business page posts! Can I turn this off somehow so that they only get posts from my personal profile?
    Thanks!

If you go through the process of sorting your FB friends into different groups, i.e., “friends”, “family”, “networking”, etc., I *believe* you can then post to specific groups by clicking on the lock icon below a post. Let me know if it works for you.

Thanks – that seems to be one way. For now I have created a list of ‘personal friends’ and then via privacy settings, custom settings, excluded that group from seeing ‘posts by me’. Other, more businessy friends will still see the posts.

    Hi Rich!

Cannot thank you enough for your input. It is as if this is a secret! Do you know how to ‘like’ a comment as a business or how to respond to a comment as a business on another person’s or businesse’s site?

  • Ditueng

Thanks for this information. Tried to find in my language (Swedish) but without success. Your post was really helpfull. Do you also have a post on how to share, for instans, youtube movies on your company fb (I only get my private user)? / Jon (ditueng@gmail.com)

This is really helpful! But I do have a question- how about if you want to comment on somebody’s facebook page post-their existing post?

    Imie,

You should be able to do that as yourself or your business with the new Facebook tools. Read more here: http://www.flyteblog.com/flyte/2010/flyte/2011/02/post-to-your-facebook-business-page-as-you-and-more.html

Hi, I operate a business facebook page “margaret River Game Exchange” and from 11/03/2011 I got shunted over to the new format. The big problem I am experiencing is that it does not allow me to make posts on my own business wall. I referred to the help section, but it referred me to buttons that do not exist.
I sent an email to facebook but received an auto reply saying they don’t reply to individual emails. Completely at a loss of how to proceed

Hi, I created my restaurant page and then I created a username (myrestaurantname). I got 131 ppl like it on this restaurant page. During my creation of the username of this restaurant page, facebook prompted me “To access this page, you’ll need to switch from using Facebook as your page to using Facebook as yourself.” Thus i switch to my personal account and added my mobile no and created the username i.e. myrestaurantname. now when i go to http://www.facebook.com/myrestaurantname, it redirects to my personal wall. It doesn’t go to my restaurant page. How can i do that? Were there any step configured wrongly in my above mentioned configuration? Could you please help me to guide. Thank you very much in advance.

Sounds like you may have accidentally assigned “myrestaurantname” to your personal account as opposed to your business account. There’s unfortunately nothing you can do through the admin to fix this. I would contact Facebook and hope for the best. Good luck!

Rich, Unless I am doing something wrong, this is not working for me. I added two pages to my favorites on my business page and can see them under Likes. However, when I type the @ symbol in a comment and the first few letters of their name, nothing comes up.
