Goldbelt IncorporatedEarlier this week, flyte launched a revamped site for Goldbelt, Incorporated, located in Juneau, Alaska. Goldbelt has been in operation for 35 years, organized under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). The company’s “primary purpose is to manage assets and to conduct business for the benefit of its shareholders, approximately 3,200 people, almost all of Alaska Native Heritage”.

Goldbelt owns and operates tourism subsidiaries including The Goldbelt Hotel, Mount Roberts Tram, and the Seadrome Marina. Other Goldbelt subsidiaries include Goldbelt Security Service, CP Leasing, Goldbelt Transportation and a variety of 8a Companies.

Goldbelt engaged flyte for two sites: this corporate site and the recently launched Web site for Goldbelt Tours. Both sites were built on WordPress, the popular content management system (CMS) and blogging platform.

Their new WordPress site allows them to post/share upcoming shareholder events/information, the Kookenaa (Messenger) newsletter and employment opportunities for all Goldbelt companies.

Maine SEO Project: Hernandez College Consulting (WordPress and Content Management Systems)

Monday, April 6th, 2009

hernandez college consultingLast week, we finished another SEO project: for Michele Hernandez, a college consultant who helps students get admitted to Ivy League Schools. Hernandez College Consulting is the second site that, while we’ve been doing SEO work, has been ported over to a Content Mangement System (CMS).  In this case, it was WordPress.

WP is such a functional platform for SEO – I can’t say enough good things about it.  All of the great plugins are what makes my job so much easier (especially in a world where you no longer have to know HTML).  This is especially good for a business owner like Dr. Hernandez, who now has the ability to go in and change her copy, add pages or links without having to call up her developer.

Plus, there’s always the matter that search engines like content management systems.  They use CSS and are incredibly easy to crawl with all that nice, clean code.

There are a ton of benefits to have your site built on WordPress, just as there are having a college consultant.  If you want to help your child get and Ivy League education, give Dr. Michele Hernandez a call!

Two Groovy SEO Plugins for WordPress

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

More and more, we’re using WordPress here at flyte as our CMS of choice.  Not only is it an easy platform for our clients to learn to use and update themselves, but it’s also incredibly search engine friendly.

As always, there are way to increase search visibility even further.  With WordPress, that way is by adding SEO Plugins.  WordPress has an extensive collection of such plugins, but I thought I’d take a look at two: one for the WP beginner, and another for the more advanced WP user.

For WordPress Beginners: All In One SEO Pack

  • Quickly and easily change title, meta-description, and keywords for your homepage, specific pages, or posts
  • Edit your title formats on your homepage, specific pages, posts, archive pages, category pages, etc. (Making them “Page Title – Blog Title” vs. “Page Title”)

For the Advanced WP User: HeadSpace

  • Everything from the All in One SEO Pack, including the option to import and support All in One SEO (as well as other related plugins), PLUS….
  • Ability to more easily add (without getting messy with HTML) Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools
  • Add cool tools and tracking devices, like CrazyEgg

Maine SEO Project: Black Point Inn (Content Management Systems and ModX)

Monday, February 9th, 2009

black point innLast week we wrapped up another search project; this one for Black Point Inn, a luxury oceanfront Inn on Prouts Neck just south of Portland, in Scarborough, Maine.

This was one of the first projects where we had to deal with a Content Management System (CMS) flyte hadn’t dealt with before – called ModX.  A lot of times, optimizing for search may not bode well with the CMS.  However, as web development and search evolve, they work better and better together.

For example, WordPress, the CMS this blog is built on, has a variety of special plugins for practically everything you could think of: SEO and sitemap plugins are just two.

For BPI, ModX was different and challenging, for it involves creating templates to accommodate many of the changes needed for optimization.  As web developing changes, intuitive CMS platforms will start becoming the norm.

In the mean time, for a beautiful ocean view and a luxury stay on the coast, check out the Black Point Inn!
