Back Cove Yachts Launches New Website.

Back Cove

Back Cove Yachts, is the sister company of Sabre Yachts whose site was also recently updated. Together these two yards are the largest recreational boat building company in the State of Maine.

The new site is built on the WordPress platform allowing for Back Cove to have more control over their own site as well as the ability to make changes when necessary. The site also includes Owner’s resources, FAQs on specific Motor Yachts, Employment opportunities and more.

Designed for Mobile

We used mobile platform detection to supply an experience customized for handheld devices. The site also includes some responsive features to make viewing on a smaller screen, such as the iPad, easier.

The New Site Features…

Full Background Slideshow: The new site is visually pleasing with a large photo background design that rotates highlighting different yachts. This design flows throughout the site from the home page to the internal pages.

Find A Dealer:
The new option allows buyers to find a Back Cove Yachts dealer by boat type, state, zip or even country. Making it easier for the consumer to find a dealer close by.

Boat Show Calendar: This offers customers the ability to know when Back Cove will be at a boat show near them so they can check them out.

Events: Back Cove dealers offer Open Houses and Events at their dealerships where you can go and browse the different models at your leisure. The events page lets you know when these events take place so you can check them out and take advantage of any promos that are offered!

The Back Cove Blog: Learn about the wood shop, check out new motor yacht designs and get an insiders view of the boat yard.

Be sure to check out Back Cove’s beautiful line of power boats if you’re heading for open water, and be sure to check out flyte if you’re looking for a mobile friendly website for your business.

flight new media vs. flyte new media: can Google Voice Search for your desktop tell the difference?

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.”

Last month Google released a desktop version of their voice search technology, allowing people around the world to yell at their computer screen and receive tangible results.

I’m a big fan of the voice search on my iPhone; it’s almost always right, and when it’s not, it’s almost always funny. So, I decided to check it out on the first thing that popped into my head:

flight new media or flyte new media?

Wait,  that’s not what I said! I said flyte new media! No matter how many times I tried it I got the same results.

If you follow the flyte new media news (and who doesn’t, really? I think CNN has a tab for us on their home page), then you may have heard that our search engine marketer, Nicki Hicks, is moving south for warmer climes.

Although she’s going to continue working for flyte, we knew we also wanted to have a search and social media expert in the office here in Maine.

Enter Joan Crocker, the newest addition to the flyte new media crew.

The first thing you need to know about Joan is she doesn’t like to share. That ice cream cone is all hers. Don’t come looking for a bite unless you want to be starting something. Besides that, there are a few things you should know about Joan:

Web Marketing Articles – A Year in Review

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

2010 was a challenging year for a lot of businesses, but for those who “marketed through it” fared better than those who put their head in the sand and tried to wait it out.

Social media became legitimized for a lot of businesses who were attracted by the apparent low-cost…forget that it takes serious resources to write compelling blog posts, update your Facebook fan page, create videos, engage in LinkedIn Groups and tweet–just to name a few activities that successful social media marketers delved into in 2010.

We also saw more focus on mobile marketing, which will continue to grow in 2011, with mobile-friendly web sites, smart phone apps, location-based apps, and QR codes to name a few. I expect this will continue as well, as more people upgrade to smart phones…especially if there’s a Verizon iPhone released this year.

As always, I feel that the best approach is an integrated one, where your create a strong content strategy and deliver your message over multiple channels, that may include your web site, blog, online video, and social networking sites. Depending on your audience it might include podcasts, in-game advertising, traditional advertising, in-person networking events and more.

For all of you who take web marketing seriously, and get passionate about growing your business, here’s a quick roundup of the articles we published in flyte log, our email newsletter this year:

Entreverge Awards: Flyte in Good Company

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

A few weeks back flyte new media was one of five businesses recognized with an Entreverge Award–”[paying] tribute to the skills, passion, and commitment of greater Portland’s entrepreneurs.” The awards are part of PROPEL, affiliated with the Greater Portland Chamber of Commerce and made up of people so young they never had to walk to school through a blinding snowstorm uphill…in both directions.

It was very flattering, especially when I saw the other four companies that had won:

CHART Metalworks – Charlotte Leavitt of CHART makes custom pieces (jewelry, belt buckles, cuff links, etc.) from nautical charts. If the coast has ever played an important part in your life, you’ll definitely want to check CHART out.

You can also follow Charlotte on Twitter or fan CHART on Facebook.

DSO Creative Fabrication – Nathan Deyesso runs DSO and designs and builds custom artwork and furniture for residential and commercial spaces. He’s got some amazing stuff up on his web site using wood & metal…be sure to visit his portfolio.

Maples Organic Desserts - I’m very lucky to pass Kristie Green’s organic dessert shop twice a day during my commute. They have delicious desserts, sourced as much as possible from local, organic farms.

North Star Music Café – Kim Anderson runs this funky local space serving up good food, good beer, and good music. About a month back Cybele and I checked out some great live music there while throwing back a few cold frosties. I just wish they had been around when I lived on the Eastern Prom.

You can follow North Star Music Café on Twitter or fan them on Facebook.

And, of course, there’s us. You can follow flyte new media on Twitter or fan us on Facebook. C’mon, it’s only a click away. ;)

Flyte Turns 13! (Happy Bar Mitzvah!)

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

It’s hard to believe that thirteen years ago I quit my day job to start flyte.

It wasn’t called flyte back then…the original name was b1 communications. I designed web sites out of my apartment in Jamaica Plain (Boston, MA) and worked part time for another Internet startup.

Soon I met my wife Cybele through mutual friends in Maine and moved up here. I started to get busy, added people, and moved the business out of my house and into the Old Port (Portland, Maine.)

Along the way we added search engine optimization, email marketing, blogging and more recently social media to our offerings.

Over the past 13 years I’ve been blessed with great co-workers, a steady stream of clients looking to grow their business, and a patient, supportive, beautiful wife.

It hasn’t always been easy. I remember many times putting my paycheck into my desk drawer week after week so I could make payroll and keep the lights on. I remember considering unpaid time off for everyone (although thankfully it never came to pass.) I remember moments where I wasn’t such a great boss (although hopefully I’ve grown from them.)

I know a lot of businesses are struggling right now, and a lot of entrepreneurs are doubting themselves. I can’t promise that you’ll succeed with your goals, but I will tell you that persistence and hard work will get you there 99% of the time. Just remember that it’s not easy, but it’s worth it.

In the Jewish tradition 13 marks the point in your life when you become a man (or a woman, depending on how you started out.) I’m not sure what adulthood will look like for flyte, but I know it will be challenging, fun, and constantly changing.

The first 13 years have been everything I could have asked for and more. I can’t wait to see what the next 13 brings us.

Thanks for helping us get here.

Maine SEO Project: P3ProSwing (SEO & Blogging)

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Recently, we launched a blog for P3ProSwing, a golf enthusiast’s dream company that specializes in golf simulator technology. P3ProSwing has everything and anything you could possibly need for your indoor golf escape – or practice arena – from golf stance mats to the analyzers themselves to the technology that powers them.

After optimizing the site, P3ProSwing wanted to take content creation to the next level: with a blog. Already, they’ve got a ton of great posts – from golf tips to technique drills – under their belt. Here are just a few recent posts:

With the blog, P3ProSwing will be able to create targeted tidbits of information – that are not only helpful for golfers (from novice to expert) – but can also help increase their website’s search visibility.

So if you’re interested in improving your game with a golf swing analyzer or simulator, get in touch with P3ProSwing.

If you’re interested in creating targeted content, contact flyte new media.
