Web Marketing Conference for Mental Health Professionals

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

Web Marketing Conference for Mental Health ProfessionalsMental health professionals, psychologists and social workers are the first to admit that marketing themselves and their practice doesn’t come easy. That’s why we’ve partnered with Transdisciplinary Workshops to put on Expanding Your Mental Health Practice Through Web Marketing.

In this day-long workshop you’ll learn:

  • How to setup a web site that engages your audience, establishes your expertise, and encourages referrals for your practice
  • How to get your web site to rank higher in the search engines
  • How to integrate a blog, video and an email newsletter into your web presence
  • How to handle HIPAA and other Internet use issues unique to mental health practitioners
  • How mental health practitioners can use social media appropriately; how to handle Facebook friendship requests, how to manage your privacy, and how to engage others in the social web
  • How to market and sell information products such as e-books, online courses and webinars.

There are only 100 seats available, so please sign up early!

At flyte we’ve worked with plenty of mental health practitioners over the years, starting with my dad, whose web site I launched in 1997. It’s definitely a challenge to market something like mental health, and the education that social workers and mental health professionals go through rarely include a semester on marketing, much less search engine optimization.

However, to paraphrase one of my dad’s psychologist friends, “if you are able to help people live a healthier, happier life, then it’s your duty to market your services so that they can find that help.”

Date: Friday, March 11
Time: 8am – 3:30pm
Location: Regency Hotel, Portland, ME (directions)
Early Tuition: $150 (by 2/1/2011)
Tuition: $170

Web Marketing Articles – A Year in Review

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

2010 was a challenging year for a lot of businesses, but for those who “marketed through it” fared better than those who put their head in the sand and tried to wait it out.

Social media became legitimized for a lot of businesses who were attracted by the apparent low-cost…forget that it takes serious resources to write compelling blog posts, update your Facebook fan page, create videos, engage in LinkedIn Groups and tweet–just to name a few activities that successful social media marketers delved into in 2010.

We also saw more focus on mobile marketing, which will continue to grow in 2011, with mobile-friendly web sites, smart phone apps, location-based apps, and QR codes to name a few. I expect this will continue as well, as more people upgrade to smart phones…especially if there’s a Verizon iPhone released this year.

As always, I feel that the best approach is an integrated one, where your create a strong content strategy and deliver your message over multiple channels, that may include your web site, blog, online video, and social networking sites. Depending on your audience it might include podcasts, in-game advertising, traditional advertising, in-person networking events and more.

For all of you who take web marketing seriously, and get passionate about growing your business, here’s a quick roundup of the articles we published in flyte log, our email newsletter this year:

Web Marketing & Social Media Classes in Maine

Monday, June 21st, 2010

If you’re looking for help with your Web marketing or social media marketing for your business, I have not one but two courses I’ll be teaching at the University of Southern Maine this fall.

The first one is Web Marketing for Small Business, a course that I’ve now taught four or five times before. However, just like web marketing, the course changes every time I give it. Over the four weeks we’ll talk about:

  • Search engine optimization (SEO)
  • Blogging
  • Social Media
  • Email marketing
  • Web design
  • E-commerce

and anything else that will help small businesses increase their online visibility, drive more qualified leads to their site, and convert that traffic into business.

The classes will be Thursdays, 9/30, 10/7, 10/21 & 10/28. To learn more and register visit the USM web site.

The second course, Social Media Marketing for Small Business, is all new. We’ll be delving into social media specifically, and how businesses and non-profits can leverage social media to grow, to engage, and to reach new audiences. Some of the topics covered will include:

  • Social networking (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn)
  • Blogging & podcasting
  • Online video & photo sharing web sites
  • Social news and bookmarking sites
  • Location-based apps (Foursquare, Gowalla)

and whatever else appears between now and then.

This course is two Wednesdays, 11/10 & 11/17. To learn more and register visit the USM web site.

Web Marketing from Down East Magazine or How Julia Child Stole My Cover Story

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

In Maine, when you want to learn about Web marketing you turn to Down East magazine, the Magazine of Maine Web Marketing.

OK, that’s not exactly true, but if you happened to check out this month’s issue, you’ll notice a hot pink banner over the right corner: HOW YOUR BUSINESS CAN PROFIT ONLINE p.44.

Once you get to page 44 you’ll be able to read a four page spread about Maine-based companies that have extended their “tourist seasons” by going online, interspersed with quotes by “Rich Brooks, whose Portland-based Web design and marketing firm, Flyte New Media, specializes in small business.”

Very cool, but who’s Julia Child and how did she steal my cover story?

You can read the Off-Season, Online at the Down East Web site.

How Does Web Marketing Help Your Business?

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

At flyte we have a model called Holistic Web Marketing; it’s a way of explaining how Web marketing helps improve your online visibility, drive qualified leads to your Web site, and convert that traffic into business. There are four pieces:

  • Attraction: How do you drive qualified traffic to your site?
  • Retention: How do you keep the lines of communication open after they leave your site?
  • Conversion: How do you get them to make a buying decision or move further down the sales cycle?
  • Measurement: How do measure your site’s effectiveness and whether your Web campaigns are working?

We recently created a cheat sheet around Holistic Web Marketing that you might find helpful. You can download What Is Holistic Web Marketing? here.
